Prosperous United 2 v 3 Kilcock Celtic
This eager awaited top of the table class fixture did not fail to disappoint. Prosperous Captain, Gareth Costello won the toss and elected to play away from the clubhouse with the strong breeze. Kilcock started the brighter of the two teams and scored a well worked goal after 3 minutes. It would be another 4 or 5 minutes before Prosperous got their confidence back and started to win more possession. While Kilcock crowded the centre of the pitch, Prosperous pressed their defence and were rewarded in the 13th when a loose back pass from Kilcock put their keeper under pressure. Dexter Powell nipped in front of their goalie and slotted the ball home. With Kilcock attacking, a cross was incepted by Alex Behan, who quickly fed the ball to Ivan Hannon who took a couple of touches before playing a lovely ball forward, which Dexter outran the Kilcock defence and rounded the keeper to take the lead in the 28th. From their kick-off, we won the ball and a cross in from winger James McCormack, resulted in a powerful shot that the Kilcock keeper made a wonderful save which resulted in him injuring his wrist and having to be replaced.
In the second half, left back Padraig O’Brien made some important tackles and quickly fed the ball down the line to Daniel Otobre, who was a constant threat. The sides were well matched and there was some lovely passing football from the home side. Against the run of play, Kilcock won a corner in the 44th minute. There was confusion in the box when the referee spoke to both sets of players about pushing and the corner was taken while the home players waited for the referee to restart the game. The ball was poked home by Kilcock to level the match up. Much to the bemusement of the players, the goal stood. As Prosperous pressed for an equaliser, an intercepted pass by Kilcock in the 50th minute, resulted in their third goal. Our keeper Dylan Shiels, who earlier made two brilliant saves, one from a direct freekick, could not keep the ball out. While the team rallied and put Kilcock under tremendous pressure, who’s stand-in keeper made two great saves. Unfortunately, time ran out and the equaliser never came.
